Welcome to 2016!

Hello Everyone and Happy New Year!

After a great time of celebrating the holidays with family and friends, I am really excited to see you all NEXT WEEK!

I wanted to take thIs time before we start the new year, to thank you parents for your efforts this past fall. Being a Beater parent is a big commitment, and I feel so fortunate to be connected with families who see the huge value of music. Learning to play music well can be a life-changing experience and I’m humbled that you have chosen WGTB to be a part of this exciting gift that you continue to give your children.

I’ve spent some of my holiday time planning an exciting second half of our year and I wanted to give you an overview of what's to come:

Before we even get back into practices we have our Chipotle Fundraiser THIS coming Monday, January 4. Click here to download a flyer to send out to your family and friends. WGTB is scheduled to play from 5:30-6:00pm weather permitting. We can't play if it is raining so right now our performance is iffy. Beyond The Beat is scheduled to play from 5:00-5:30pm. Our fundraiser is ON whether or not we end up playing so please encourage everyone you know to come support us that night. As long as customers let the cashier know they are there to support WGTB/Jazz Fresno BEFORE they ring them up, we get 50% of the proceeds. People can support us anytime between 5:00-9:00pm.

I do need to let you know last Monday (12/28) our building flooded out. Cause is yet to be determined and there wasn't any instrument damage as far as we know. However, the restoration workers have spent this past week drying out the carpet. They still need to determine if there is any significant damage to walls, etc. Whereas I am planning on starting practices again on 1/5 & 1/6, I won't know for sure until after this weekend. Please plan on starting back right after our Chipotle gig. I will let you know if something changes.

Please check our Up-Coming Gigs page on the website. We have events planned every month and hopefully we will also be adding school gigs from your Beaters' schools.

In thinking over the past few months, and hearing from a few of you, I am going to do my best to offer your Beater more chances to earn drum parts on our tunes. I will be in the WGTB practice room starting at 3:30 on practice days. Beaters are welcome to arrive early and sign up to try drum parts on a specific song. I will listen to them play with whoever else is in the room and give them feed back on how they are doing. This is in addition to having Joe & Alexis show the Beaters specific drum parts. I hope this will encourage more Beaters to try drum parts.

I also wanted to let you know that I know it can be challenging being a Beater parent. Please know that, while I spend most of my time focusing on helping your children, I’m also here to support you as well! Working together to help your Beater is the optimal way to ensure your Beater’s success and enjoyment. You are always welcome to ask for advice, for updates on your children’s progress or for any other musical assistance you may need.

Seeing your children grow, improve and learn to love music is the most rewarding part of my job. This past fall I saw confidence, progress, creativity, pride, feelings of success and major accomplishments on a weekly basis. These are powerful memories your Beaters are making, and these are invaluable skills that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. What a gift to your children, what a gift to yourselves to experience, and what a gift for me to be a part of!
